In the beginning of December, Yu Jiangying, one of the directors of Yunnan New Film Project (YNFP), went to Lincang for preparing the script and collecting the folk music for the film
Sing A Love Song.
The film's main shooting scene is Canyon County in Lincang. Cangyuan, the Va ethnic borough, reserves the most completed Va culture. People there have black skin and also like wearing in black. The music of Va, which is like the rock music, is full of power and humaneness. Director Yu said she was extremely affected by the energy of Va ethnic.
The Va people are good at dancing and singing. They also have the distinct talents not only in sculpting but also in painting. The old paintings on the cliff, created by ancestor of Va ethnic, are the cultural heritage and have the extremely high artistic value. These paintings are full of mystical color including many kinds of animal shapes which we never seen before. According to Yu, she will present a novel story hiding behind the mysterious painting.

Wengding, the only indigenous inhabitant village which retaining the Va primitive architecture, will be the main scene in the film. All the traditional activity will be displayed on screen such as the exhibition of the local wine and the cattle sacrifice.
Yu saw the traditional local plays, Va ethnic ceremony of sacrifice and unique celebration in a small town of Yanshuai. Fortunately that day was dies Faustus. The Va ethnic and the Han race have the same Chinese era, the only difference is denomination. Yu got a Va's name Yedao by chicken-bone augury.
Yu loved the Va ethnic so much and got godparent there. Yu said she was the daughter of Va ethnic and wanted to shoot the film as a genuine Va people. Now her most favorite food is boiled rice with chicken, which is a traditional Va food. She said she once ate five bowls of it unconsciously.
The actors in the film Sing a Love Song will be chosen from the native Va ethnic people. And they will also use both Va language and mandarin to speak and sing. Yu met a lovely little girl there and began to devise an interesting plot for her.
Presently, the general outline of the film has been finished. It tells a romantic love story and has great performances of dancing and singing. According to the chief producer Lola,Sing a Love Songwill be completed next year.
