China, Brazil agree to further bilateral cooperation

UNITED NATIONS - China and Brazil, the two emerging economies in the world, on Friday agreed to expand their bilateral cooperation and vowed to push the bilateral relations to a new height.

The agreement came in a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Alberto Figueired, both of whom were at UN Headquarters in New York to attend the ongoing General Debate of the UN General Assembly, now in its fourth day here Friday.

Over the past years, the development in the Sino-Brazilian ties has attracted extensive attention, with their increasing strategic influences in the world, Wang said.

China is ready to join hands with Brazil in further developing bilateral high-level contacts, promote the bilateral cooperation in major fields in an active manner and further strengthen the strategic cooperation in major international affairs, Wang said.

The Brazilian foreign minister also said that his country attaches great importance to the development of relations with China and Brazil is willing to make efforts to ensure that a cooperative, Brazil-China bilateral relations can make more contributions to the economic growth and social development in the two countries.    

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the issues of common concern, including how to strengthen the cooperation among BRICS countries, which group Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
