6 US teens killed in Ohio car crash

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-03-11 06:40

WASHINGTON - Six teenagers were killed and two others were injured early Sunday in a fatal car crash in the US state of Ohio, local media reports said.

A sport utility vehicle with eight passengers crashed into a guardrail before landing in a pond in Warren, northeast Ohio, the reports said.

Six of the eight passengers were killed on the spot, but two others survived. The two injured, rescued from the pond by divers who responded to the scene with Ohio State Highway Patrol, were taken to the St Joseph Health Center for treatment. Their conditions remained unknown.

There was no information immediately available for the cause of the crash, but alcohol did not appear to have been a factor. Local investigators were quoted as saying that none of the passengers was wearing a seatbelt.
