By Sun Xiaochen | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2017-04-13 18:07

A world-class equestrian event will be held at the Equuleus International Riding Club in Beijing from Friday to Sunday.

Approved by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) as a two-star jumping event, the Camelot Grand Prix will kick off its three-day 2017 edition at Beijing co-host Equuleus' course on Friday, following the inaugural show staged in Dongguan, Guangdong province in November.

It will be the first FEI-starred event held in China this year as well as the first time that Equuleus, China's only club approved by the British Horse Society, has co-hosted a jumping show with Dongguan-based club Camelot.

"We have been in close contact with Equuleus for years. Its rich experience in hosting major events, cutting-edge facilities and professional organizing team have really stood out from all clubs in the country, so it's an ideal partner," said Li Zhenqiang, founder of Camelot.

During the event, riders and their horses will be invited to compete in six classes, with obstacles ranging in height from 0.5 to 1.5 meters over a course designed by German Olaf Petersen, who has designed multiple Olympic and World Equestrian Games courses.

Jumping is one of the three equestrian disciplines at the Olympic Games, alongside dressage and eventing.

The FEI ranks all jumping events under its umbrella using a star system based on the quality of competition and prize money on offer.

To entertain visitors during the event, a series of carnival activities such as horse shows, equestrianism promotions and gourmet showcases will be staged at the 4,000 square meter lawn to the north of the competition course, according to Equuleus.

The Grand Prix will return to Camelot in Guangdong for its second show later this year.
