Rewind the clock

Alessandro Del Piero and Paul Pierce joined the "Throwback Thursday" club by posting pictures recalling their prime on Twitter in a move to demonstrate that some feelings attached to a team or city defy the passing of time.

Juventus legend Del Piero posted a picture of a fantastic volley that helped the club overturn a two-goal deficit to beat Fiorentina 3-2 in an Italian Serie A match on Dec 4, 1994 that he described as "unforgettable and significant".

The winning goal from then 20-year-old forward, who left the bench to replace a sluggish Robert Baggio, ushered in his reign at Juventus.

Rewind the clock

Repaying the trust of then team coach Marcello Lippi – now director of football at Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande - Del Piero, alongside Baggio, Gianluca Vialli and Fabrizio Ravanelli created a strong attacking unit that secured the Serie A title Juve had had aspired to for eight seasons.

Del Piero watched over Juve as a guardian angel during his 19-year career with the club, choosing to stick with it following its relegation to Serie B for match-fixing in 2006.

He wore the legendary No10 jersey for the last time in a Coppa Italia tie against Napoli on May 20, 2012 when fans of both sides afforded a standing ovation to one of Italy's greatest players.

Del Piero moved to Sydney FC in Aug 2012 as a free agent and now plays for Delhi Dynamos FC in India.

Responding to his tweet, Juve posted a video clip of some of his goals on Thursday in tribute to its former icon.

Yes, we all miss him.
