What's the buzz

China Daily | Updated: 2013-05-13 07:31

Photographs of IT engineer Xu Jia, who quit his job six months ago to sell fruit, have gone viral on the Internet. Xu looks healthier now than he did when he used to work as an IT engineer, according to a photograph taken at the time. Do you have the courage to give up your present way of life and start doing what you like best? China Daily's mobile phone news readers share their views:

I won't give up my current job and lifestyle because they are the fruits of years of sacrifices and hard work. Therefore, for better or for worse, I love my present life. And even if I had new expectations or yearnings, my efforts to achieve them would be based on my present life.

TINA, Nanjing, Jiangsu province

I would like to give up my job as a civil servant and find a new job. What I expect from a new job is passion and a sense of fulfillment - that I am making progress every day - instead of entering and leaving the office at scheduled times without achieving much in life. I understand that such a decision has to be taken carefully, so I plan to do some part-time job before ultimately changing jobs to get a clear idea of what the final change will be like.

JASON, Foshan, Guangdong province

There are different definitions of success. Some think success means one can do whatever he/she feels like, while others see it as a rise to the top despite reluctance. All the same, I would not give up my present life because success comes with perseverance. Everyone has a different view of life. And I follow my heart to be myself.

LITUDOUJUN, Zhengzhou, Henan province

It is unwise to talk about leading an easy life and retiring from "active employment" in our youth. Instead, we should try to become the leaders of our times. Even though it is not necessary to achieve something world-shaking, we should at least live by our values. But of course, we should take into account our future before taking a decision about changing our way of life.

CALENDARGIRL, Heze, Shandong province
