Marital ad a welcome change

China Daily | Updated: 2013-04-08 10:27

A Nanjing University professor has issued a half-page advertisement in a newspaper for a life partner. Apart from his strong academic background, what has surprised the public is his "true pursuit of love", says an article in Guangming Daily. Excerpts:

In today's society where a house and a car seem to be the ticket to a relationship, the professor's ad in which he highlights his academic achievements, hobbies and travel experience is a refreshing change. As the professor says in the ad, he is not yet married because he has a small social circle and few interactions with colleagues. His experience is not very different from that of many other people.

Dating programs on Chinese TV channels give precedence to high income and house when it comes to a relationship. The importance of money should not be ignored in a relationship, but money should not be the most important factor.

Only if a person is sincere with his/her thoughts and emotions can he/she have a lasting relationship. Since the Nanjing University professor has expressed his likes and dislikes sincerely in the ad, he should be applauded.
