2. Tobacco

Tobacco has been grown in Dandong for nearly a century and the city is the origin of the Northeast’s cured tobacco industry.

Dandong has about 750,000 mu (50,000 hectares) planted in tobacco, which is the main ingredient of high-grade cigarettes. Dandong’s profits from tobacco increased from 2001 on thanks to improved, standardized production.
