Courier Dou Liguo instantly became perhaps China's best-known deliveryman when he rang the New York Stock Exchange bell last September as a representative of the country's e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.

Dou and seven other ordinary people were invited to the event by Alibaba's CEO Ma Yun-aka Jack Ma. Ma became Asia's richest person following his company's initial public offering-the biggest in history.

Dou's participation in the historical moment brought countless motivational-speaking invitations from media and governments.

The 40-year-old has spent the last six months with a national tour schedule like a rock star's.

"I don't know how to express my thanks to Alibaba. But I also think Ma Yun should thank me because people associate me with his company after I rang the bell," he says.

"I have a happy family life with my wife and 8-year-old daughter. I have my own delivery company now. I don't known whether I can say my Chinese dream has come true."

The average monthly salary for a courier is about 3,000 to 5,000 yuan ($480-800). He founded his delivery company in 2013 after working as a courier for nine years.

He earned 2 million yuan over the past five years in Beijing. His company has about 40 employees, who make about 3,000 deliveries a day.
