San Francisco mourns Paris victims

Residents of San Francisco, the sister city of Paris, lit candles outside the French consulate on Kearny Street to honor the memory of the victims in Friday's coordinated terrorist attacks in the City of Lights.

Around 200 people gathered at a vigil on Nov 14 outside the French consulate, standing in silence with candles, flowers, letters and hand-drawn pictures, with words like "We love you, Paris", lined up on the wall.

"I have friends in Paris who have not been heard from since the attacks," said Beatrice Tarka, a French woman living in San Francisco. She took her 5-year-old son, 2-year-old daughter, and her mother to the evening vigil.

"A friend's boyfriend was at one of the concerts and there's been no news from him. We have been watching closely Facebook updates," she said.

Buildings in San Francisco lit up to show their support. The Hearst Building near the French consulate, used blue, white and red lights to decorate its gate on the night of Nov 14. San Francisco City Hall was displayed the French tricolor in lights on Nov 13.
