Nadal conqueror out

China Daily | Updated: 2013-06-27 05:50

Steve Darcis, the world No 135 who stunned Rafael Nadal in the first round at Wimbledon, pulled out of the tournament with a shoulder injury on Wednesday.

"Had to withdrawn after a win like this!?THE most difficult thing i had to do!!!#," he tweeted.

Darcis had been due to face Lukasz Kubot in the second round.

Darcis inflicted Nadal's first-ever opening round defeat at a Grand Slam with his stunning straight sets win on Monday.

In other surprises Wednesday, marathon man John Isner was forced to retire after two games into his second-round match against Adrian Mannarino with a knee injury.

Isner, who wrote his name into Wimbledon folklore when he played in the longest match, at 11 hours and 5 minutes, in professional tennis in 2010 against Nicolas Mahut, pulled up while serving 1-1 in the first set.

The women's second seed Victoria Azarenka, the Australian Open champion, was forced to withdraw just minutes before she was due on Centre Court. She had been due to play Italy's Flavia Pennetta.
