It is always inspiring to get the news that some Chinese films are nominated at world major film festivals, while it is also a little disappointing to know we just passed by the trophies. For some upcoming festivals, we can only hope that Chinese film will have good luck.

Yearender: Honors achieved in 2014

1. Chinese director Wang Chao's Fantasia was among the official selections at the 67th Cannes International Film Festival, which took place from May 14 to 24 this year.

2. Mu Zijian's One Child made the shortlist of eight documentary short subject contenders up for an Academy Award this year.

3. Three Chinese films among primary selections for Golden Globes

Chinese directors Peter Chan's Dearest, Zhang Yimou's Coming Home and author Han Han's The Continent are among the primary selections in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the upcoming 72nd Golden Globes Awards. The 72nd Golden Globe Awards will be held on Jan 11.

4. The Nightingale for the 2015 Oscars

China has submitted The Nightingale, the second-ever official French-Chinese co-production, as the candidate for Best Foreign-Language Film at the 2015 Oscars.
