A video clip showing a surveillance camera able to identity detailed information of commuters and vehicles has gone viral.

The seconds-long clip, uploaded Sunday by www.k618.cn, a non-profit website aimed at minors, shows sex, age and clothing of pedestrians as well as the type of vehicles.

This is an application of video recognition, one of the latest achievements of the country's real-time video monitoring technology, according to the website. The technology can be used to analyze the behavior of pedestrians and pinpoint criminal suspects, it said.

With more than 20 million surveillance cameras across the country, China hosts the world's largest video monitoring network.
