Young entrepreneur included on Forbes list for inventing 'electronic tattoo'

People's Daily Online | Updated: 2017-01-19 08:43

Huanyu Cheng, a 28-year-old from Xianyang, Shaanxi province, has been included on the Forbes list of 30 global elites under 30, Hsw.cn reported on Jan 18. Cheng earned his spot on the list by inventing a wearable monitoring device.

Cheng got his master's degree and PhD from Northwestern University in the US, after graduating from Beijing's Tsinghua University. He is now an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on Lithium-ion battery technology, wearable e-products and dissoluble electronic devices. His scientific achievements have been recognized by a variety of international news media, including Science, Nature, BBC, Forbes and Discover.

Cheng said the wearable electronic circuit perfectly conforms to the body's surface to monitor physiological signals like temperature, heartbeat and brain waves around the clock. It can also offer useful information to medical professionals, allowing them to offer help in a timely fashion if an accident occurs.

The electronic devices boast non-medical applications as well. For example, it is costly for humans to monitor underwater environments. Fortunately, Cheng's devices work well underwater and simply dissolve after completing their tasks, effectively reducing electronic waste.

At present, Cheng is working on various domestic research projects.
