It's relatively painless, says bartender

China Daily | Updated: 2013-10-02 09:50

Editor's note: Zhang Heng, a bartender at a pub in Guangzhou, underwent plastic surgery on his nose in South Korea in March.

Customers at the pub often joked that with my height of more than 1.8 meters and small eyes I looked like the main actor in a South Korean TV series.

When I was growing up I was praised for my good looks. Although my nose was a little flat, it was still OK with me and I was satisfied with my appearance.

However, since last year whenever I gazed in the mirror I looked immediately at my nose. I don't know why, but the longer I looked at it the uglier the nose seemed to become.

Some girls at the pub had had plastic surgery on their eyes and faces. So, inspired by them, I contacted a large website that organizes trips to South Korea for surgery.

At the start I felt very awkward and thought plastic surgery was mainly for women. However, after talking to employees I was told that men frequently undergo plastic surgery in South Korea.

Both sexes have an equal right to pursue beauty, so why not men, I often said to myself.

After I arrived in South Korea, accompanied by website staff members, we visited several hospitals where plastic surgery is performed, to compare prices, doctors and their plans for surgery.

Finally, I chose a hospital where the nose described to me by the doctor was just the one I was looking for.

I was still a little afraid of having plastic surgery, but the doctor said this was only to be expected.

The operation went more smoothly than I had first imagined and I didn't feel too much pain during the recovery process. It was a little inconvenient, as I had to wear a plaster on my nose for five days after surgery.

The doctor later removed the stitches and now I love my new nose and so do my friends. It looks so natural.

Zhang Heng talked to He Na, China Daily reporter.
