China Daily Asia Weekly has won an award for best in editorial content (features) at the Asian Media Awards 2013, organized by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

The award, presented at Publish Asia, held in Bangalore, India, on Sept 11, was for the Chinatown series published in the August 2012 issue. The articles examined the changing face of Chinatowns across the region, capturing their special flavor, discovering the transformations taking place and the challenges confronting them. It covered the rich cultural heritage of Chinatowns, the Chinese diaspora, and what it means for Chinese and Asians.

The WAN-IFRA contest is considered to be among the most competitive in the industry, drawing entries from some of the best newspapers in the region.

"It is highly gratifying to see that China Daily Asia Weekly is being recognized by its peers for its editorial excellence," says Zhou Li, publisher and editor in chief of China Daily Asia Pacific Ltd, publishers of China Daily Asia Weekly in Hong Kong.

"The award is all the more satisfying as the paper is less than three years old. I thank WAN-IFRA and the organizers of this forum for bestowing the honor on this young paper," adds Zhou.

China Daily Asia Weekly is the Asia edition of China Daily, the national English language daily of China. Launched on Dec 10, 2010, China Daily Asia Weekly is now the region's biggest circulation newspaper.

"I am sure this award will inspire us all to work harder and strive toward an even higher level of journalism," Zhou says. "Our long-term aspiration is to be a major reference point on China and the rest of Asia for the region's readers."
