9 buried, 4 missing in NW China landslides

LANZHOU - Nine people are buried and four are missing after two separate landslides in Northwest China's Gansu province on Thursday, local authorities said Friday.

A rain-triggered landslide happened at about 9:30 am in Nanyu Village, Niangniangba Township, Qinzhou District of Tianshui City burying 13 people. Four have been rescued but nine are still buried, according to the provincial emergency response office.

Four people are still missing after a landslide in neighboring Yongguang Village that occurred at about 10 am, according to the office.

Roads linking the seat of Niangniangba Township to the places where the landslides happened have been damaged by floods. Rescue work is under way.
