A private museum in Hebei province has been closed after public criticism of allegedly fake antiques on display, Beijing News reported on Thursday.

The Jibaozai Museum opened in July 2010 and is owned by Erpu village in Jizhou, a county-level city, the report said.

All the 40,000 items housed in the museum were from the collection of Wang Zongqun, the museum's director and party chief of the village, the museum's general adviser Wei Yingjun told Beijing News. In a statement on Wednesday, the Jizhou government said it had established a team to investigate.
