A Chinese medical team on Wednesday continued to deepen cooperation with its international counterparts and to treat people in Brunei.

The team is taking part in the first ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief and Military Medicine Exercise.

Thirty-five Chinese joined a field hospital as part of the joint exercise being held in Brunei from Monday to Friday. Medical teams from Brunei, Cambodia and Singapore are also at the hospital.

The Chinese team set up a traditional Chinese medicine and internal medicine clinic at the hospital. Dozens of people from Brunei received traditional Chinese medicine treatment for free.

Li Chengxin, a Chinese doctor, said he was a little surprised that so many locals are interested in traditional Chinese medicine and the Chinese military.

"We treated around 116 patients up to Tuesday afternoon," Li said while treating two patients.

Tong Xiaoling, China's former ambassador to ASEAN and Brunei, said China is both a teacher and learner during the exercise as its military has taken part in many disaster relief operations at home but is less experienced than some countries when dealing with tropical disasters.
