Feb 16—March 3, 1956: The Sixth Work Session of the National United Front

From Feb 16 to March 3, 1956, under the Party Central Committee's instructions, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee held the Sixth Work Session of the National United Front. The session resolution stated that, due to the rapid development of socialist transformation, the internal relations of the people's democratic united front had changed. The worker-peasant alliance had been increasingly consolidated on the basis of socialism. The bourgeoisie as a class, although not eliminated, had been yielding to the working class. The vast majority of intellectuals had become part of the working class, and the democratic parties had basically become a political organization serving socialism. The resolution stated that most of the ethnic populations had embarked on the path toward the socialist transition, and the party's task was to continue to consolidate and expand the people's democratic united front and unite all possible for a common goal. The resolution called for "making education become a central role of the united front work" to help most of the bourgeois, democratic parties and advanced intellectuals in political study and thinking transformation, and gradually make sure that they have adapted to the changing political and social status. "Under the new historical conditions, we should give full play to the role of mass organizations including the CPPCC, democratic parties, industrial and commercial federations,"the document said. The Party Central Committee approved the working policies and required Party committees at all levels to continue to strengthen the promotion of a united front policy, to strengthen their leadership over the united front, and to correct "left" or right errors.

Feb 16—Feb 19, 1990: The Ministerial Conference is held in Beijing

The central theme of the meeting was to discuss how to do a good job in cadres' inspection work, and how to strengthen the building of leading bodies at all levels to ensure that leadership at all levels of party and the state is loyal to Marxism. On Feb 18, Jiang Zemin attended the meeting and talked with ministers, and said that it was important for the central authorities to investigate cadres.
