In 2006, Wang Tao set up DJI, which now manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs, in a dorm room while he was studying at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Guangdong-based company now has about 70 percent of the global consumer drone sales market and boasts a work force of nearly 3,000. Last year, DJI's sales jumped to $500 million and the company is on the track to report $1 billion in sales this year.
