Subsidies for energy-saving appliances reintroduced

Beijing residents will enjoy subsidies when buying energy-saving appliances, as the authorities have reintroduced the household appliance subsidy on Friday.

The subsidy covers nine types of energy-efficient appliances, which includes the newly-added water heater, range hoods, air purifier, pedestal pan and bicycle, Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce said.

In 2011, Beijing offered financial subsidies for individuals and companies that buy energy-efficient appliances, such as televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and computers. However, the subsidies were rescinded in 2013 for these five types of appliances.

The subsidy standard varies from eight to 20 percent in accordance with different energy efficiency grades. The subsidy for the appliance with first level standard is 13 percent of the sales price, while the second level standard appliances would receive a 8 percent subsidy. The subsidy for a pedestal pan is up to 20 percent, according to a notification issued by the commission and four other government departments.

Moreover, it is the first time that online retailers, including Taobao.com and Dangdang.com, are on the list of enterprises which sell energy conservation products.

The energy conservation policy will take effect from November 27, 2015 to November 30, 2018. The maximum amount redeemable for the subsidized goods is 800 yuan, and each consumer can enjoy one subsidy for each type of appliance.
