The JV, which will be in Shanghai, will include a new state-of-the-art pre-compounding plant and is expected to be operational in the first half of 2013, pending government approval. Work on the new plant is expected to begin during that same period.

In speaking about the agreement, Hu Dongchen, president of the China Haohua Chemical Group (another ChemChina subsidiary), said, "The Joint Venture contract is an example of the successful cooperation between DuPont and ChemChina and will have a positive impact on our technology base and international market exposure, while providing a good foundation for future cooperation between the two."

Diane Gulyas, the president of DuPont Performance Polymers, added that, "This joint venture combines DuPont's leading fluoroelastomer technology, global reach, and strong Viton brand with Chenguang's integrated manufacturing position and strong China presence to yield new ways to serve customers. This will enhance DuPont's ability to meet the rapidly growing fluoroelastomer demand and bring leading products and technology-based solutions to customers in China and globally."

Gulyas went on to say that this co-operation reaffirms DuPont's commitment to the automotive industry and provides strong regional assets to meet the ever-growing customer needs.
