HK retail sales up 11.4%

HONG KONG - The value of total retail sales of Hong Kong in April has been provisionally estimated at HK$35.7 billion ($4.60 billion), up 11.4 percent year-on-year, the city's Census & Statistics Department said Thursday.

According to the figure, after netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, the volume of total retail sales rose 7.6 percent.

The revised estimate of the value of total retail sales in March, at HK$36.6 billion, was up 17.1 percent on the same month last year, while the volume of total retail sales increased 13.2 percent.

The volume of sales of miscellaneous consumer durable goods increased the most, by 52.2 percent.
