BEIJING - China pledged Friday to play an active role during post-war reconstruction in Libya.

"China believes the relationship between China and Libya will develop smoothly with joint efforts," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said during a daily press briefing.

The National Transitional Council (NTC) has reiterated that it will implement any international deals and contracts that were previously agreed to by Libya.

"This message is very important for the international community, as foreign investors can look forward to reliable and stable cooperation with Libya," Jiang said.

The NTC, Libya's interim authority, said that key allies can expect preferential treatment in return for their help in ending 42 years of rule under Muammar Gaddafi.

"We will appreciate the efforts of other countries and give them priority within a framework of transparency," Abdel Jalil, Libya's interim leader, told reporters in the country's capital of Tripoli after meeting with visiting leaders from Britain and France.

Jiang said that China values the role of the NTC and hopes that the contracts signed by China and Libya will still be carried out in the future.

"Employees of China's Libyan Embassy  will return to Tripoli when the time is ripe," Jiang said.

British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in Tripoli on Thursday to show support for Abdel.
