German National Tourist Board's Beijing office recently held a news conference to promote Bavaria state's rich beer culture.

Its data shows that in the first half year of 2016, the overnight stays of Chinese tourists in Bavaria were more than 320,700, and their overnight stays in Germany were nearly 1.14 million.

"Bavaria boasts advanced beer brewing technology. In the state, the per capita consumption of beer is 230 liters on average every year," said Zhang Peng, marketing manager of China, Bavaria’s tourism bureau. He introduced the history of beer in the state, and how to brew different kinds of beer.

Until 2013, Germany had 1,349 beer factories and more than 600 of them were in Bavaria.

This year marks the 500th year anniversary since the Bavarian Purity Law was passed. It aims to ensure the quality of beer and is still in effect today.

In 1516, the brothers Duke William IV and Duke Louis X in Bavaria announced the law, to regulate that "the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be barley, hops and water."

According to Zhang, tourists can also enjoy UNESCO World Heritage, Bavarian traditions and outdoor activities in the state.

Data shows that during the first five months of 2016, the top five cities that Chinese travelers visited most were Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne, Hamburg and Dusseldorf.

Oktoberfest, one of the world's largest beer festivals, is being held in Munich, Bavaria until Oct 3. People gather there for beer and local food such as sausages, and enjoy music and performances.
