Xinjiang Karamay Forum promotes regional cooperation

Xinjiang Karamay Forum is an upgraded version of CPEC and will facilitate Asian and European counties’ economic and cultural communication, according to the Duan Lingyun, vice Party chief of Karamay.

Duan explained that there are 12 participating countries in the Karamay forum, compared with two in CPEC; more than 40 billion yuan worth of contracts are intended to be signed; the forum also set up exhibitions for enterprises to help them go global.

Forum will compel Karamay to become globalized

The organizers purpose to build the Karamay forum into a channel for counties in this region to exchange culture and trade, as well as display their achievements.

The China-Pakistan and China-Kazakhstan cooperative committee will be established during the forum.

Karamay was appointed as the forum host due to its rich history, geographic position, and city development plan.

Karamay is located in the middle section of the Eurasian Continental Bridge. It is an important crossroads for the China-Pakistan, China-Central, and West Asian Economic Corridors.

As an important oil and gas producing base in Western China, Karamay is known as “oil city”. Over the past 60 years, its accumulated crude oil output has reached 340 million tons, while its accumulated natural gas output has exceeded 70 billion cubic meters.

The city plans to build six petroleum bases involving oil production, technology, storage, and transportation to boost international energy trade and cooperation.

The forum was organized by the Karamay government and the National Institute of International Strategy, with support from the government of Xinjiang.
