City-dwellers and oilfield workers in Karamay, Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region who are covered by the social insurance system will be able to enjoy remote medical insurance payments using their social security cards in most hospitals across the region this year, said the Xinjiang Oilfield Social Security Center on June 21.

As one of the regional people-benefiting projects, the demonstration and popularization of the remote medical insurance payments will provide great convenience for insured patients who have to receive remote medical treatments, and for insured citizens living in other cities for a long term.

Direct insurance payments will be possible in the Xinjiang Cardiovascular Hospital and the Occupational Diseases Hospital. The project is also expected to cover four general hospitals and several township hospitals, benefiting insured local citizens and people in surrounding cities. Xinjiang will later expand its reach into other provinces in terms of remote medical insurance payments.

The project will improve and optimize the remote medical system in Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region. It will greatly cut expenses and save time on medical treatment for citizens and patients across the region.
