World Ghost City, also known as the Urho Windy City, is located in Urho district, on the northwest side of the Junggar Basin,100 kilometers northeast of Karamay City. The City covers an area of about 120 square kilometers, with the central scenic area covering an area of about 15 square kilometers, 5,000 meters in length, 3,000 meters in width–at an altitude of 350 meters. Ravines and gullies criss-cross the land and rocks form various shapes, representing one of the world’s two most famous Yardang landforms. The area is a wind gap, windy through all seasons, and the place is thus also known as Windy City. Whenever there are strong winds, they seem to circle among the rocks, making sad, shrill and hair-raising howling sounds like crying ghosts and wolves. Ghost City attracts many tourists around the country and also from all corners of the world. In November 2008, the Ghost City area became a national 4A level scenic spot, and, the following year, the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region selected it as an excellent tourist attraction.
