The primary construction phase of Karamay's first self-driving campsite – the Karamay Forest-Park Self-driving Campsite – has been completed, according to Karamay Daily.

According to Zhenda Company, responsible of the construction of the campsite, the racing track, main stem and barbeque area of the campsite have been completed.

Once completed, the campsite will occupy approximately 210,000 square meters, roughly equivalent to 28 standard football fields.

The campsite project started in June 2013 with a planned first-stage investment of 30 million yuan ($4.75 million). It is hoped that the campsite will become one of Xinjiang’s main tourist attractions and a hub for self-driving tourists.

Xinjiang region's strong economic development in recent years has increased the number of people choosing to go on self-driving holidays. 70 percent of tourists in the region now participate in self-driving holidays. Statistics show that during this year's National Day holiday, more than 100,000 Karamay residents chose to visit self-driving tourism destinations, including those in the cities of Kanas, Hemu, Koktokay and Urumqi.
