China University of Petroleum founds branch school in Karamay

China University of Petroleum (Beijing) will set up a campus in Karamay. The new educational establishment, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in Karamay, will start enrolling students in 2016, the Karamay Daily reported.

Wang Jun, vice-mayor of Karamay and Zhang Shicheng, vice-president of the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) signed a cooperation agreement on July 22 to found the Karamay branch of the China's top petroleum higher education institution. Lu Xin, vice-Minister of Education, also attended the signing ceremony.

The university's Karamay branch will be a first-tier university, operating under the management by its Beijing headquarters and receiving educational resources support from Beijing. It will offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree as well as overseas study and adult education.

The new China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in Karamay aims to become a scientific research center and a cradle for petroleum talent, helping the oil city develop into a hub along the Silk Road Economic Belt.
