Fishermen in Xiapu county, Fujian province are busy harvesting porphyra, a kind of edible seaweed commonly known as "Zicai" in China, this month.

Situated in the northeastern part of the coastal province, Xiapu abounds in shallow seawater products such as kelp and porphyra.

More than 4,100 hectares of the sea near Xiapu is now used for porphyra farming.

In 2016, 11,432 tons of the sea plant was harvested in the county, becoming an important source of income for locals.

Meanwhile, the porphyra farms lined neatly on the sea have also turned out to be a local signature sea view, attracting numerous visitors during the harvest season.
