Xiamen is now home to 58 road bridges, with an increase of two new road bridges every year, according to the Xiamen Municipal Road Bureau and the Road and Bridges Bureau.
Data shows that more than 380,000 vehicles travel on the bridges daily.
Of all the bridges, some of them stand out with their own unique features.
1. Xiamen Bridge: China's first cross-sea bridge

The construction on the bridge started on October 14th in 1987, and it was put into trial operation on May 1st, 1991.
It has a total length of 6.695 kilometers, and 2.07km of the bridge was built across the sea.
2. Jimei Bridge: The widest bridge in Xiamen
Jimei Bridge
The construction started on December 20th in 2006, and it was put into operation on July 1st, 2008.
The bridge has 8 lanes, including two BRT lanes. It is the only cross-sea bridge that has BRT lanes in Xiamen.
3. Haicang Bridge: The busiest bridge in Xiamen
Haicang Bridge
The construction started on December 8th in 1996, and it was put into service on December 30th, 1999.
It is a suspension bridge with a main span of 648 meters. Data for April this year showed it is the busiest bridge with the largest traffic flow in Xiamen, followed by Xinglin Bridge, Jimei Bridge and Xiamen Bridge.
4. Yanwu Bridge: nearest to the sea surface
Yanwu Bridge
The construction started in December 2001, and it was put into operation in September 2003.
It is the bridge nearest to the sea surface in the world and looks like it is floating on the sea when the tide rises.
5. Zhuxi Bridge: The oldest bridge in Xiamen
Zhuxi Bridge
The bridge is more than 900 years old. It is 73 meters in length and 2.6 meters in width.
It is located in Zhuxi Village, Houxi Town in Jimei District.
