The construction of a newly planned Fuzhou-Xiamen High-speed Railway is expected to start within this year, and the travel time between Xiamen and Fuzhou is expected to be cut in half to 1 hour and the travel time between Quanzhou and Beijing is expected to be shortened to 8 hours, about 4 hours less than before.

The new high-speed railway was designed to link Fuzhou, Putian, Quanzhou and Xiamen. It will be an extended part of the Beijing-Fuzhou High-speed Railway, and will link to the Hefei-Fuzhou High-speed Railway (or Hefu High-speed Railway), which is scheduled to be put into operation on June 30.

Currently, there is a railway linking Fuzhou and Xiamen, which allows bullet trains to run as fast as 200 kilometers per hour, however, the trains running on the new Fuzhou-Xiamen High-speed Railway will be able to run as fast as more than 300 kilometers per hour.

The new high-speed railway aims to relieve traffic pressure on the current railway, as the occupancy rate of bullet trains on the current railway has reached nearly 100%, especially during holidays.

It is expected to forge a one-hour circle for travel among the cities of Fuzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou.

The Hefu High-speed Railway is the 4th double-line electric railway with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour in China. With a total length of 800 kilometers, the Hefu High-speed Railway will start from the South Hefei Station, stop by the Changlinhe Station, the Chaohu Station, the Wuwei Station, the North Tongling Station, the Nanling Station, the Jingxian Station, the Shengde Station, the North Jixi Station, the North Huangshan Station, the Maoyuan Station, the Dexing Station, the Shangrao Station, the Wufushan Station, the North Wuyishan Staion (Wuyishan City), the East Wuyishan Station (Jianyang City), the West Jian’ou Station, the North Nanping Station (Yanping District), the North Gutian Station, the East Yuqing Station, and finally arrive at the Fuzhou Station.
