The fourth session of the 12th Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) convened on Feb 3 Tuesday, with the Fourth Session of the 14th Xiamen People's Congress due to start on Wednesday.

Three major topics are expected to top the agenda at the “Two Sessions” including the election of new officials.

Liu Keqing, the current mayor of Xiamen, was elected as vice chairman of CPPCC Fujian Committee in the newly concluded Fujian Two Sessions.

Another hot topic is the Xiamen free trade zone (FTZ) which is expected to officially open in March. It is expected that many proposals will be put forward in two sessions relating to the development of the FTZ.

As is often the case, information consumption is expected to be debated, since the city is an ‘intelligent city’ pilot.

Sessions participants also will submit proposals in environmental protection, medical care, city infrastructure and Xiamen-Taiwan exchanges.
