Taiwan’s transportation authorities have recently granted visas-upon-arrival for tourists from the Chinese mainland who are visiting the islets of Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu, according to a report by the Haixia Morning Post on Oct 27.

The police statement, which takes effect on Jan 1 next year, stipulates that mainlanders who possess a Taiwan Travel Permit and valid endorsement, can proceed with visa procedures after they land on the three islands.

Previously, mainland tourists travelling to any place in Taiwan had to apply for an entry permit issued by Taiwan’s transportation authorities.

The relaxation in visas came after an inspection tour by Taiwan’s leader Ma Ying-jeou to Kinmen where he urged local officials to improve business investment attraction.
