A Peking University professor and China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) expert, Cao Heping, has suggested that Fujian province promote environmentally friendly industries, since Fujian has a good ecology and environment and has been chosen to pilot China's ecological civilization construction.

Cao went on to say that Fujian has many mountains and a long coastline but its environmental potential hasn't been fully tapped to contribute to economic development in the past. Its ecological pilot area is expected to play a major role in promoting the ecological economy to make the province a leader in China.

He also suggested that advanced, high-tech, low-energy, environmentally friendly industries be developed in the province and that it could get some useful environmental protection experience from Taiwan where the environmental protection move started much earlier than on the mainland.

Fujian's GDP exceeded 2 trillion yuan ($322 billion) in 2013, meaning that "Fujian has a solid industrial foundation for its own green industries," and it has many overseas-Chinese who could bring investment back to their home country. Fujian also has advantages for Taiwanese wanting to invest.
