Fujian to strengthen cross-Straits ties

Fujian province plans to increase exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan in trade, tourism, and other aspects, the China News Service has reported, form comments made by Su Shulin, the provincial governor, on Jan 12, at the opening of the four-day Second Session of the 12th Fujian Provincial People's Congress, in Fuzhou, Fujian's capital.

Su reported on the government's work over the past year and its work for 2014, saying that they will improve cross-Straits ties by increasing investment, trade, and family ties with Taiwan, and open the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone further.

Fujian started a Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement in 2013, and the use of Taiwan capital rose 87.6 percent and trade volume, 7.4 percent and Su said that Fujian will try out policies for Taiwan and projects in finance, logistics, e-commerce, and medical education.

The province also plans to work on cross-Straits water supplies to deal with water shortages on Kinmen island, and more cities, such as Zhangzhou, Putian and Longyan may become pilot cities for "Individual visit to Taiwan".
