Fuzhou saw an opening ceremony for the Wuyi Rock tea products that won awards in the Wuyi Mountain Rock Tea Contest, on Wed, news.fznews.com has reported.
The Wuyi Mountain Rock Tea Contest, held in the village of Tianxin, Fujian province, is meant to decide the best tea and has a history of more than 800 years. It starts on Aug 18 each year and runs for four days and usually has more than 1,000 teas competing for awards. It is China's biggest and the most influential Wuyi Rock tea competition.
Wuyi mountain has been growing tea for hundreds of years, the Cross-Straits Tea Industry Association's head, Zhang Jiakun, told the ceremony, going on to describe the contest as a site that allows all varieties of Wuyi tea to compete for the top spot, adding that the 800-year-old tea culture needs to be popularized so more people can get to know its charm.
