Fujian boasts a 3,254 kilometers long inland waterway. The province also enjoys the most abundant coastline resources in the country. It has 524 productive berths, 78 of which are above 10,000-ton level. It has ports including Fuzhou Port, Xiamen Port, Quanzhou Port, Shishi Port, Ningde Port, Zhangzhou Port and Putian Port and 36 international ship routes. Total annual handling capacity of all the ports in Fujian currently are 142 million tons with a container throughput of 5.71 million TEUs. Through the ports, Fujian has established trade relationships with over 70 ports in the world and business relationships with more than 200 countries and regions.

Xianmen Port with a container throughput of 4.68 million TEUs, ranked the 19th among the top 45 global ports in 2009. Fuzhou Port and Xiamen Port have opened pilot straight shipping lines to Kaohsiung Port in Taiwan. Coastal areas of Fujian have also started straight contacts with Kinmen county and Matsu township.

The annual cargo throughput of Fujian’s ports has exceeded 400 million tons with a container throughput of 10.73 million TEUs in 2012. Xianmen Port, Fuzhou Port and Quanzhou Port have become the ports with annual cargo throughput of more than 100 tons in the province.
