Wujiagou, lying in the valley of Wudang Mountain, one of the most important Taoist mountain of China, is famous for its folklores known as the living fossil of ancient culture.

Wujiagou was a secluded village and had few communications with the outside world. Therefor, many primitive legends could be found here. For example, the myth The Marriage of Mankind and Dogs gave a glimpse of the primitive society where the people were plagued by wild fires and worshipped dogs. Digging down the Hillock carried messages about procreation worship.

The folklores of Wujiagou cillage can be divided into six categories including myths, legend, stories, fables, jokes and fairy tales. In the 1980s, over 1000 folklores and thousands of folk songs were found in the village. The village was hence named as A Village of Folklores.

With the rise of modern entertainment and the change of lifestyle, the Wujiagou folklores are in need of protection.
