Renaissance Hotel brings a taste of Korea to Beijing

Through July, the Renaissance Beijing Chaoyang Hotel will showcase Korean food and culture as part of the South Korean government's efforts to promote Korean culture.

Sponsored by the Korean Culture Service under the South Korean Embassy, and Korea Agro-Fisheries Trade Corporation, the Korean food festival, which is named The Beauty of Korean Style, is being held in partnership with different hotels.

Last year, it was held at the Westin Beijing Chaoyang Hotel and the year before, at the Shangri-la in Hong Kong.

"This year we were one of those to submit proposals to host the event and finally won the chance," says Shim Doo-hyun, director of marketing of the Renaissance Beijing Chaoyang Hotel.

Although best known for kimchi and bibimbap, Korean cuisine has many other delectable offerings that combine exotic spices and ingredients with meticulous preparation.

Kim Choong-kon, a banquet chef from JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, will bring select authentic Korean dishes cuisines to Beijing diners.

Guests will get to savor the different kinds of kimchi, a traditional fermented dish of vegetables and seasonings, from traditional cabbage to turnip and cucumber.

Bulgogi, one of Korea's most popular dishes made of marinated barbecued beef and assorted condiments, will also be featured. Other dishes include sauted spicy pork belly, chicken with chili sauce, roasted river eel with soy sauce and grilled marinated beef.

An art exhibition showcasing centuries-old artifacts from South Korea, will also run with the food festival.

"This is a good time to showcase in Beijing the food, arts and culture of our neighbor," says Angela Pan, general manager of the hotel. "As the hotel is strategically located within the so-called Beijing 'South Korean Community', we are bringing all Koreans and Korean food lovers closer to this delicious cuisines"

The festival runs at Renaissance Caf where diners will have a chance to win a three-night stay in the luxurious JW Marriott Seoul with a business class round trip air ticket for two, courtesy of Asiana Airlines.
