Audrey Tautou new face of Chanel

When asked what she wore to bed, Marilyn Monroe famously responded, "Chanel No 5".

The perfume has been a best-seller ever since and the fashion house has perfected the art of celebrity endorsement.

In keeping with its tradition of choosing emerging stars with a distinct sense of style, Chanel has announced its latest celebrity ambassador - Audrey Tautou.

The doe-eyed star of Amelie and Da Vinci Code fame, has been chosen to replace Nicole Kidman as the face of Chanel's ever popular perfume, No 5.

Following on the success of Baz Luhrmann's cinematic ad featuring Nicole Kidman, No 5's new ad campaign will kick off with a short film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Audrey Tautou in the leading role.

This is the third collaboration between Audrey Tautou and the award-winning filmmaker. He also directed her in the films Amelie and A Very Long Engagement.

The short film is scheduled for release in 2009.
