Education commitments made for initiative

Several Chinese provinces and regions have committed themselves in writing to fully apply their educational resources in serving countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

The signing of several memorandums of understanding earlier this month with the Ministry of Education came as education authorities are preparing for the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, to be held in Beijing on May 14 and 15.

MOUs were signed by officials from Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shaanxi and Qinghai provinces, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Qingdao, a city in Shandong province.

Under the MOUs, the ministry will offer participants support in their student exchanges, setting up educational institutions and conducting regional research.

The officials also expressed determination to contribute to the establishment of an educational community in Belt and Road countries through in-depth exchanges, cooperation and nurturing of talent.

To boost China's educational cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road, the ministry issued a plan in July and has been building consensus since September.
