Beijing to observe Low Carbon Day

Beijing will observe the first national Low Carbon Day on Monday, as one of the activities arranged for the 23rd energy-saving promotion week, which runs from Saturday to Friday, the municipal commission of development and reform announced.

To launch the first Low Carbon Day, Capital Museum will hold an exhibition on climate change. Opening on Monday, the exhibition will run until July 1.

Other promotional events during the week, include special discounts on energy-saving home appliances, which are on offer at ten department stores in the city.

Banana Peel, or xiangjiaopi.com, the first recycling website for electrical products ranging from cellphones and televisions to air conditioners, will also be launched.

"If the idea roots in everyone of us, our energy saving achievements will be greater and our lives will be better." Hong Jiyuan, an official with the commission said.
