(Xinhua) Updated: 2014-08-25 10:13

JINAN - A regular direct air route will be launched on September 17 to connect Singapore and East China's tourism city of Jinan, local authorities said on Sunday.

Operated by Singapore's Tigerair, the flights will commute between Jinan International Airport and Singapore's Changi Airport. The airline said that it will launch one round-trip flights per week, with each single trip taking less than six hours.

Jinan International Airport currently has ten international air routes that link the capital city of Shandong province with five countries and regions.

The direct route is expected to boost local tourism industries, as well as enhance economic and cultural exchanges, according to Jinan's tourism bureau.

Known as "City of Springs," Jinan is a popular destination for domestic and foreign travelers.
