Experts and scholars gathered at Beijing's Peking University Saturday for a two-day discussion on the impact of movies on China's cultural industry.

The meeting was part of the China 2012 (Beijing) Film Annual Conference. Participants worked to find ways to improve the country's soft power through film.

The conference, organized by the China National Film Museum and School of Arts of Peking University, featured four summit discussions, three roundtable discussions as well as three academic salons and other communication activities.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, China's film industry has been a crucial part of the nation's cultural landscape. Its growth has drawn a lot of attention. Organizers said they feel it's important practically and academically to discuss how to further develop China's film industry and to expand its influence.

As the largest film museum in the world, the China National Film Museum has been the host of the China Film Annual Conference for the past three years.

Apart from the two-day annual conference, organizers also held a series of academic activities and will publish a collection of essays submitted to the conference.
