HONG KONG - The import of poultry products, including poultry eggs and frozen poultry, from northeastern Liaoning province on the Chinese mainland has resumed, the Center for Food Safety of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China announced Thursday.

"We have decided to resume the import of poultry eggs and frozen poultry from the area as appropriate monitoring and control measures have been taken by mainland authorities following a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 earlier in Dalian city," a spokesman for the center said.

No notifications of further poultry or human cases of HPAI infection in that area had been received since April 26, he said, adding that the center would continue to monitor the situation in the area and take necessary measures to safeguard public health.

The center suspended the import of poultry products from Liaoning province for 21 days from April 26 in accordance with the zonal approach policy. The policy deals with different outbreak scenarios of HPAI within and outside Guangdong province.
