The Fujian Coast Guard conducted routine law enforcement patrols in the waters near Kinmen on Friday, according to Zhu Anqing, a spokesperson for the China Coast Guard's Donghai Branch.
Since the beginning of October, the Fujian Coast Guard has deployed vessel formations to strengthen control and management of the relevant waters, Zhu said.
The patrols are aimed at safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests, as well as the lives and property, of fishermen on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. They also seek to ensure orderly navigation and maritime operations in the waters between Xiamen and Kinmen, he added.
