Artist Li Jun specializes in the flower-and-bird genre of classical Chinese painting and is noted for his depiction of wisteria.
His solo exhibition, Zi Yun Cheng Hui (Purple Clouds Basking in Radiance), now on view at the art center of Art News of China in Beijing, showcases his fascination with the plant, expressed through loose strokes and a neat composition.
While he draws extensively on the technical strength of the ink painting tradition, he also draws inspiration from modern artists such as Wu Changshuo (1844-1927) and Qi Baishi (1864-1957), whose forays into reforming ink art reshaped 20th-century art.
